When asked by Pop Excess, Kesha listed Beck and Queen as major musical influences, she later told RWD Magazine that she draws from rap music and old-school punk as well. She credits her older brother with exposing her to groups such as Fugazi and Dinosaur Jr. In an interview with Digital Spy, Kesha described her music as irreverent and defended her decision to make pop music as opposed to "more serious acoustic stuff". Label head, Barry Weiss had also called her "a mix of Madonna and the Beastie Boys". She describes her dress style as "garbage-chic" and names Keith Richards as her fashion inspiration.
